Bonjour Paris!

Salut à tous!  I’m Lisa, I’m from Edinburgh and I study French and Linguistics at the University of Edinburgh.  I’m spending my third year abroad as an Erasmus student in Paris, studying at Université Paris 7 Diderot.

I’ve been here for almost three weeks now and I’d love to say that things are beginning to settle down and feel a bit more normal, but I fear that moment is still a few weeks away!  I have however found somewhere to live, opened a bank account, got myself a French SIM card and (almost) negotiated the minefield that is signing up for classes at Diderot.

I’m starting this blog for a few reasons.  First of all, it seems a good way for me to share what I’m up to with everyone at home so you can all be up to date with what’s going on here.  It’s also great for everyone who can’t see the photos and updates I’m posting on facebook (Hi Nana and Granda!).  Secondly, I’ve read so many year abroad blogs in the past year and found them to be really helpful, so I hope that my experiences can be of use to other students embarking on their year abroad (if that’s you, bonne chance à vous!) in the future.  I also like the thought of being able to look back and remember what I’ve done throughout the year, as I’m sure I’ll be struggling to remember September when it gets to the end of the year!  And I suppose this is a more suitable outlet for my French bureaucracy related rants than the 140 characters I’m limited to on Twitter…

If you want to make sure you never miss an update, there’s a follow button somewhere on the left hand side.  If you click that and follow the instructions you’ll receive an email every time I post something.  Hopefully you’ll stick with me for what I’m sure is going to be a very exciting and challenging year!

À bientôt!

Lisa x
